Do you look tired even after a full night’s sleep? Dermal fillers may be the solution.
Do you ever wake up in the mornings and no matter how much sleep you’ve had you still look tired? Or perhaps people always ask, “you look so tired, did you get enough sleep last night?” Well you’re not alone. Many of the clients that we see come to us with this exact concern, not understanding why they constantly have eye bags and that the treatment is very simple and non-surgical.

Why do I look tired all the time?
Any hollows, shadows or dark circles under the eyes makes us look tired, even when we’re not. In youth we have plump, full fat pads that provide structure and support all over our face. Over time, these fat pads shrink (atrophy) and sag creating hollows and shadows. This is especially common under our eyes, leading to a sunken and persistently tired appearance. We call this under eye volume deficiency a ‘tear trough’. While common with the ageing process, shadows and hollows under the eyes can also be seen in a people in their 20’s due to genetic factors making this treatment suitable for all age groups.
What’s the solution for eye bags?
There are many treatments available such as cover up make-up and invasive surgeries. However, dermal filler injections are a popular and safe treatment option for those that want results that last beyond washing your face but are not as risky and invasive as surgery. Cosmetic dermal fillers provide immediate results, providing fresh and rejuvenated eyes. Treatment of this delicate area should only be completed by a cosmetic injector with advanced anatomical knowledge and who is an expert in tear trough treatments using dermal filler injections.
What to expect before treatment with dermal filler injections
Firstly, a thorough consultation! Your cosmetic injector should take the time to assess and explain to you how your anatomy will effect your results. They should be able to give you realistic expectations and be able to explain what you will achieve using dermal fillers and whether the treatment will give you the best outcome. Results vary from person to person and your clinician should be transparent with which treatment pathway (if any) would be best for you and your budget.
How is the treatment performed?
A topical anesthetic will be offered to numb skin, but in nearly all cases, clients do not feel that they need this as selected premium dermal fillers contain local anaesthetic. Ice is applied to the tear trough for comfort as well as to prevent bruising. The dermal filler (gel like) is then administered with tiny needles, or through a cannula, under the skin giving you immediate lifted results.
What are the common side effects from tear trough treatment using dermal filler injections?
Some swelling and minor bruising may occur after having dermal filler injections. The tear trough is a very thin skinned area with many superficial blood vessels. While many can be seen and avoided it’s impossible to avoid them all. We will always advise that while a small bruise is common which can easily be covered up by make-up, however on the rare occasion a larger bruise can occur. Minor swelling and bruising resolves in a few days, larger bruises can take up to a week. We recommend that dermal filler injections for tear troughs should be avoided if you have a big event prepared within the week just in case there is bruising.
Will I need to take time off work to recover after dermal filler injections?
No. For those who are a little nervous about swelling or bruising, allow 1-2 days after the treatment for recovery but in most cases cover up make-up is enough.
Is it painful?
Most clients say it is mildly uncomfortable but not painful. All clients are concerned that dermal filler injections for the tear trough will be painful, it’s actually one of the least painful areas to treat. While ice helps, the premium dermal filler we use also contains local anaesthetic making the treatment more comfortable. When the anaesthetic wears off after 30 minutes, some tenderness (which is expected from any needle treatment) may be felt which subsides within 24 hours.
How long tear trough dermal fillers last for?
From a single treatment using dermal fillers results can last up to 10 months and in some cases longer. We will always suggest that tear trough correction is a delicate procedure and while one treatment is usually sufficient, a second treatment may be required at a later stage for optimal results. This is discussed with you and your aesthetic desires.
Remember that dermal filler injections for the tear trough is an extremely specialised treatment and should not be attempted by an inexperienced cosmetic injector. At Ohana Cosmetic Medicine we specialise in eye rejuvenation treatments, delivering natural results to refresh tired eyes.
